Universe, Reality, Perspective and Perception

I had a thought the other day then quickly dismissed it thinking it was perhaps too obvious.  My thought was a simple one, does the observable universe follow the same patterns as atoms, only on a larger scale.  I wondered if the birth of the universe was like a solid, and as it expanded it changed into a liquid (or how we perceive a liquid at a molecular level), and as it continues to expand it changes into a gas (these are all metaphorically speaking).  Is it possible that the universe is following the laws of physics only on a larger scale, and in so doing show us the way atoms work.

However since the universe is much larger than our perceived notion of solid, liquid, gaseous states, we cannot image it in any other way than the way we observe it at present.  My reasoning behind this is as I have mentioned before, is due to the similarities between atoms and the universe.  If we were the size of an object observing the universe from the same perspective as we observe an atom, I would imagine there would be plenty of similarities.  An object which is mostly empty with a binding force of dense material, enclosing small amounts of matter (I think it is best to call dark matter a dense material or object,  than use  matter, as it is not matter it is something entirely different to matter and in a way the word probably misleads).  I would classify the newly discovered Higgs Bosom field as being the analogous form to what we call dark matter.  Alternatively, perhaps it is not, we may in future know, but you have to admit there are similarities in their purpose. 

Now I think further, where would dark energy come into this equation, forgetting my previous posts about dark energy being a storage facility for our collective consciousness (though that is still plausible), the vibration of atoms is the cause of them to disperse and change from solid to liquid to gaseous states.  Perhaps the reason for the discrepancy is our perceived perspective of each object in our reality.  As I have said before, our reality must manipulate our perspective, as a magician or illusionist does, to make what may seem impossible seem possible and plausible.  It can only be this way, as we see our universe, our reality as perfect.  I am digressing slightly.

I believe we are part of a large, complex pattern of continuous evolution, and somehow for whatever reason it is our gift to try to understand it.  The pattern is simple, at least it is in our reality, and all objects are part of a larger object and made up of smaller objects.  Whether this is infinite, we will never know but I believe it is and that we are unable to comprehend that at present, because our perspective parameters have not reached that level yet.  Another part of the pattern is the transference of energy from one form to another.  Whether this is the true purpose of the universe is unknown but it is an essential part, energy has to change form constantly, and it seems to want to find ever-diverse ways of achieving this, our brains are an example of a complex incredible way to transfer energy. 

Going back to perspective parameters, we seem to have the ability to grow ours, I mean humanities, the more we learn and achieve the further our perspective parameters grow.  We are constantly growing, learning, understanding, observing and thinking of ways to improve and perceive reality in a better way.  This continuous learning and expanding could be seen as comparable to the expansion of the universe which is one of the reasons I thought our consciousness is a small part of the ever expanding universe.

Now I am really going off track, back to the beginning when I first started this blog, I wrote about this stuff then deleted it thinking it was more fantasy than reality.  Of course, everything is fantasy until it proved otherwise, and it is fun to use ones brain to think beyond and just try to imagine what we are dealing with and how it works.  Obviously, this is just using my imagination, my brain, with all the knowledge I have accrued over the years all the hidden details my subconscious remembers but I do not.  All of it working to create an idea that in my view must stem from something.  I believe everyone has this gift if people bothered to use it. 

So using that creative gift and enormous imagination, I will continue.

The correlation between the smallest objects we can observe at present and the largest is too much of a coincidence to be unconnected.  I do not mean, how we observe them in a quantitative state, I mean the physical attributes, the emptiness, the fact that the further we go into an atom the more we find.  The only constant in all of this is that we humanity, with our large conscious brain, sit right in the middle of this perceived reality.  Everything we understand and comprehend using our senses and our brains creates a universe where we are the centre objects.  I know everyone now says we are not the centre of the universe but we are; we are the centre of our universe there is no other way of stating this.  Everything is away from us from our perception of reality, from our perspective.  You could argue that this does not apply to the atoms making up your own body, but still if you think of it as you are the one object then everything inside you is moving away getting smaller, and everything outside you is moving away getting larger.

What if, we were able to move along the scale, as if using the electromagnetic scale for an example we moved away from white light, the light we can see, and moved into the infrared scale or the ultraviolet scale.  Another example would be if we were suddenly observing the universe from the size of a galaxy or perhaps an atom.  How would it change?  Would it change, would it be the same as we perceive it, for some reason I suspect it would and would not at the same time.  If we were a galaxy, I imagine stars, planets, and whatever exists on those plants would seem like atoms, molecules, and the like, and the observable universe would suddenly expand, and we would see more of what is the great universe.  We would observe things that at present we are unable to imagine.  Perhaps when they launch the new telescope into space we will see more of what the universe is, I am truly excited about when we get the first images back from the James Webb telescope whenever they decide to send it into space.

Now I think further the speed of light and how we observe and perceive it, has always had a strange fascination with me, why is it the way it is?  Think about it further, light is photons hitting our eyes, then I presume though cannot be certain, an electrical pulse is sent to the brain and it creates an image.  Does our brains capacity to transfer the energy of light into an image determine the speed of light?  When we measure the speed of light, using instruments, we created, and observations we make, then from this we use the same brain to calculate mathematically what it is we are observing.  I have had many arguments with friends who did astrophysics as a degree course that the mathematical equations for the laws of physics are set in stone and that is the way the universe works, end of story.  My argument was always, it is only from our perceived reality that we can assume these laws work, and it is ignorant of us to presume it is the same if we were in a different reality or perspective.  Then again, we are not in a different reality or perspective, but we now know other realities exist, and certainly, other perspectives exist also.  I would say the first person to observe the universe from a different perspective or reality would be a cert for a Nobel Prize.

Anyway I have waffled on for too long, but I feel it is good to flex ones imagination now and again.

Died Today

Oh what a shame I died today,

I watched my soul as I flew away,

The body below left rigid and cold,

Turning grey like a solid stone,

It was so strange as I lifted higher,

I felt myself get lighter and lighter,

I wondered where I might be heading,

Anxiety rose and I was dreading,

Please oh please don’t say hell exists,

If it does I’ll be really pissed,

Not that I’ve been really bad,

I just never believed in that religious crap,

When I reached as high as space,

I could see the Earth oh what a place,

So beautiful, so magnificent,

As if it was heaven sent,

Then all of a sudden I heard a sound,

I looked each side and all around,

It was a woman with a sexy voice,

She said it’s time to make a choice,

The choice was quite a simple one,

Do I go back or do I go on,

I said rather quickly can I go back to Earth,

I would love another chance another rebirth,

She said OK fine and good luck,

Then sent me back to be a bloody skunk.

What if an asteroid was going to hit Earth in seven years

I had a thought yesterday about the meteorite that hit middle Russia and the asteroid that flew by later that evening last Friday.  Imagine we find out that an asteroid the size of the one that wiped out the dinosaurs was on a collision course with Earth.  It would hit Earth in seven years’ time, we have roughly five years to figure out the plan to either destroy the asteroid or manoeuvre it out of our path.  Instead of the usual way of imagining this catastrophic event, I thought how quickly humanity would put aside its differences, its petty fears, its misgivings, and all work as one, quickly and efficiently to find an answer that would prevent the end of the world, and the extinction of our species.

How far would humanity progress in those five years?

We would have to find a better solution for propelling objects into space.  Improvement of fuel efficiency, find answers to questions at this time no one seems to be able to find answers too.  We would need to spend our energies on improving the International Space Station, so it can handle many people working on space related solutions, in space.  Many problems would need solving immediately, it would focus the greatest minds of this world, it would move us away from thinking of ourselves in a counterproductive way and everyone would have to work to solve the worst problem that humanity ever had to deal with.

I know we have seen plenty of films that show this kind of disaster, but this is not only an American catastrophe, it is a world one, and the world would have to work together to solve it.  I would imagine many of the countries that at present cause the world more grief than their size or influence demands, will have to put their petty differences aside and think if they do not do this, they will die.  It’s amazing how quickly one can put aside petty insignificant differences when you realise you are going to be dead if you do not act in a more mature and professional way. 

It is hard to say how many improvements to society and life, as well as many other benefits to life that would come from solving such a problem.  There would be a reason to make every effort to create artificial gravity in space.  This may seem like a small benefit in the grand scheme of things, but imagine the advantages if we could create artificial gravity.  If you have many people working in space, it has to be one of the top priorities so we can build the device to manoeuvre the asteroid away from our orbit.  We would need to create a quick and efficient way to get into space.  I know I have read about space elevators, if this were plausible, it would need to be a top priority.  If not other means, we would need to invent quicker and cheaper ways to reach space, rather than solid fuel rockets; I bet we would have a solution in time.

As well as improvement on how to get to space and making a suitable space device to send to the asteroid, we would have to decide whether to make it a manned mission or not?  We would also need to improve infrastructure on Earth.  If all countries are finding solutions, we need a quick and efficient way to move everything to the launch sites or elevators.  Greed and profit would have to take a back seat and any hidden patents that perhaps will help in creating let us say better energy solutions, so that fossil fuels would become redundant.  We would need to seize them immediately to help solve these problems.

The way the world works would have to chance for at least the time until we have either destroyed the asteroid or moved it.  Large companies would have to change their ways from making many useless consumer goods to putting their collective knowledge to help stopping the asteroid from killing us all.  What is the point in making profit if we are all going to be dead in seven years?

I believe we could do this, stop an asteroid from hitting Earth if we had five years to solve the problem.  The reason I say five years and not seven is because I feel you would need probably two years to send the device to where the asteroid is in space, waiting until the last minute should not be plan A, that should be plan Z.  In a strange way, being so close to disaster might be the best thing that could happen to this planet, to the human population.  Yes, there would be the doomsayers, the ones who will not help and think it is the end of days, but I think most people want to live, whatever they may say.  Humanity wants to have a reason to survive, and finding out humanity is seven years from extinction would be a massive incentive to work hard to solve the multitude of problems we would encounter.

Now I think about it, we subconsciously and sometimes deliberately try to create doom events that perhaps will springboard humanity onwards to another level.  Climate change is an example of this, the war on terror is another, and its antithesis the religious fundamental terrorists themselves.  Nuclear weapons and the impact it may have on the world is a major doom event.  Probably the greatest doom event so far has been the Second World War, though this was not a subconscious attempt to improve society, it had a massive effect on society, not just in the devastation it caused, but also the many improvements, inventions, the progression forward humanity made.  Our attempts to cause doom across the world are not attempts to improve society directly, but sometimes they do have that effect.  However, they are small or not seen as a definite problem or issue that will cause total destruction.  An asteroid hitting Earth would have that effect destruction would be inevitable unless we solved the problem of moving it.

Perhaps this is a heartless way to look at things, but I see it as trying to see the positive in bad or catastrophic situations.  Not to think, oh god this is the end we are all going to die, instead to think no we are human beings with amazing gifts, we have the ability and the resolve, the ingenuity and courage to work together to solve the greatest catastrophe to ever befall our planet in our era.  Its just a shame we need some kind of catastrophe to have this sort of affect.

Imagine Hollywood making a film about that, instead of a wildly inaccurate film like Armageddon, to make a film or series about how we found a way too effectively move an asteroid, the brains a skill behind it.  No one would watch it because it would seem boring, unless it actually happened, as even if Hollywood did make it, it would still be wildly inaccurate.  We can never fully know what we would discover because of our human genius.

Extremely Bright Supernovae

I read this morning that scientists have found extremely bright supernovae that defy the Chandrasekhar limit.  They use the Chandrasekhar limit for type 1a supernovae, as standard candles across the universe.  It is one of the major indicators of the universe expanding and this new evidence in my opinion shows the limitations of our knowledge of the universe.  I have mentioned many times that we know less than a quark of knowledge on the great canvas of the universe and this news about supernovae if proven correct are a good example.  Since the discovery of type 1a supernovae and the evidenced based assumption that they are all roughly the same in mass, Chandrasekhar calculated that type 1a supernovae could only be 1.44 solar masses, and since then every type 1a supernovae has followed this assumption.  Think about it, we have less than a hundred years of data regarding supernovae, about a universe, at least our known universe of 14 billion years.  That is like saying water vapour falls as snow all year around because it did so for the last five seconds.

Yes, we can only go by the evidence we have in front of us at the time, but unfortunately on a universal scale, it is negligible and we put a great amount of faith in our negligible evidence.  I do not say we should stop making assumptions about the universe, but we should be careful when we claim it must be right.

Doomed!!!

Time passes, the endless stream going nowhere,

Dreams take hold exploring new horizons,

We walk a path, a path in blindness and confusion,

Will we ever see the light again?

 

Time moves in all directions at once,

Uncontrollable and chaotic, it explodes out everywhere,

Everything all knowing, existing in purity,

The light is there to see yet still we do not see it.

 

Why can we not see the light?

Where does it hide, perhaps inside the mind?

Flickering delicately between our synapses,

Unable to break free to show us the way.

 

Consider the enormity of the situation,

The cataclysmic disorder that invades most minds,

No wonder we cannot see,

We lack the belief to understand, we are condemned.

 

There are no answers to this quest,

Decisions are meaningless, to the end,

A yearning to know will not bear fruit,

For we are doomed, trapped in a darkened room.

What is the Universe?

It has always fascinated me, always made me wonder, what is the universe?  Does it have a purpose?  How big is it?  Why do we exist?

Why do we exist? 

Scientists give us a very simple answer to this question we exist because of evolution.  By some freak chance, we the humans of planet Earth, alive today, have the highest honour the universe can bestow - intelligence and self-awareness.  We know we exist; we have the intellect to understand how we biologically came into being.  In my demented mind, I see a problem, a niggling itch that will not go away.  If we have self-awareness and it is part of us however small, that tiny part of our sub-conscious brain.  Why do many of us want to have a reason for having this great gift?  In so many different ways, whether we realise it or not we crave an answer.  Why do we exist?  Is there a purpose to our existence?  And if there is, what is it?

If there is no answer to this question, and the non-answer is we do not have a purpose, we do not have a reason to exist; we are only participating in the great game of the universe.  We are only the newest version, fresh off the factory floor, moving the process onwards.  If that is the case, then it is a curse to be self-aware.  It is a devil and a cruel trick, to have this ability to think beyond the realms of our planet, to break free from the shackles of stupidity, inanity, the leave behind the instinctive mindlessness of not knowing.  If we have this amazing ability to see beyond, then it gives reason to believe that in fact, we do have a purpose, we do have a reason to exist, the problem is we have not figured out what that purpose is. 

We are a tiny blip in the fabric of the universe; we are blind to what the universe is and what its purpose is.  It makes sense that if we exist and have a purpose to exist then the universe as well must have a purpose and in its entirety exist for a reason.  How can we ever know this?  We are so small and insignificant, not even noticeable on our tiny planet Earth.  Are we the beginning of something great, something special, or are we just another freakish, evolutionary, anomaly.  Will we in our own time go out like the flame of a candle, slowly burning down into insignificance. 

This is the curse of self-awareness, because if we look at our planet, and the human population most of us do not do something we are proud of, we do not do something with purpose.  Yet inside our minds are these thoughts, deep down for some hidden unknown, and for others they are there present, gnawing away.  They take us in many ways, religious, spiritual, scientific, some just have no concept of what it is they feel, they know yet do not know, but it is there inside us.  Why is it there?  We feel the need to want to understand these things, want answers to these questions.

How does a trillion, trillion trillion, or whatever the amount is, of particles and energy, combine together to create our brains.  We have an incredibly complex biological super computer, created through evolution by pure chance.  It happened here, we know it did because we are alive to experience it, to enjoy its amazing abilities.  For the majority humans on this planet, our brains and minds are underused, they are severely controlled, and curtailed from expression and comprehension of self-awareness.  By some freak chance, we are all susceptible to petty simplistic delusions that stop us from doing what we should be doing.  Most minds are caged, unable to break free from the shackles of mediocrity, and they are so underused to become automatons, following strict procedures, fearful of change and freedom of expression.  We are seven billion minds, we are all connected, together we are one, we were born from the same mother, we feel each other’s pain, we feel all the suffering, collectively we are a mess, a shambles, a disgrace.

Unfortunately, we are the self-aware experiment that went wrong, we have not understood the universe, how it works, and how it feels.  We do not move with the flow towards the right path; we are chaotic and uncontrollable; we are a catastrophe.  Our minds do not work in unison with our planet and our universe, we will be like a giant star, we will burn bright and large for a short time before we use up all our energy and then we will supernova out of existence.

Sad really, we have so much potential, yet it is wasted.

General Relativity, Dark Matter and Galaxies

Everyone must know the description of how gravity works, originally formulated by Newton and updated by Einstein.  Whenever you watch a science doc talking about gravity they always show a heavy ball in the middle of a stretched piece of rubber or something similar; then someone rolls the smaller ball in a straight line towards the heavy object and the smaller ball curves around the larger ball, simulating an orbiting pattern.  Einstein called this space-time, and said heavy objects cause the space to curve which cause an object that is moving in a straight direction to curve around the heavier object.  Simple and amazing when you think about it further.  They have now proved it so by showing light from distant stars through gravitational lensing.  The dark matter curves space-time and we see the light behind, this is how they know dark matter exists.

However, this causes a problem as I see it.  Does dark matter exist all around us?  I have read it might.  I have watched astronomy docs where they mention this, but if this is the case how does the description of gravity formulated by Einstein work on a galaxy level or a universal level.  Surely, such a simplistic concept falls apart.  Think about it, dark matter holds the galaxy together like some kind of super heavy glue, binding the normal matter in place so that the galaxy spins evenly (meaning the stars all orbit the galaxy at the same speed, the inner stars and the outer).  Yet it is not strong enough to keep planets orbiting a star evenly.  I presume, in fact it must be true that dark matter clumps together in the same way normal matter does, yet it manages to clump together in such a way that the whole galaxy and every galaxy manages to spin evenly, each star in every galaxy spinning at a steady rate equal to the other stars.  How convenient.

There must be more to this even spin cycle for want of a better expression.  It cannot just be the density of dark matter; it must be the distribution of dark matter, because there has to be more dark matter near the outer limits of the galaxy, than at the centre.

Now all of this brings me back to the diagram they use to show Einstein’s theory of general relativity and the large ball on the stretched rubber.  This diagram does not work on a galaxy level; it only works at a star system level, the galaxy level is more like the bike going around the wall of death.  Perhaps a barrier of some kind stops the galaxies flying apart, or whatever, something other than dark matter’s density.  Perhaps there is a connection between the black hole at the centre, and the edge of the galaxy.  It makes me think of the doc I watched where they showed a form of energy device called the Torus, picture below.  Now if you think of a galaxy like that then to me at least it starts to make more sense.  You can then cut the Torus in half, and create a kind of ying and yang of energy flowing from one side of the positive galaxy say our side, through to the negative or the other side.  The energy flows constantly and we perceive it as dark matter that creates a wall or some kind of an invisible barrier, as we would perceive it in our reality.  This in turn keeps the galaxy from flying apart.

Obviously, we cannot see this happening as it probably is happing at speeds beyond the speed of light, hence why we cannot see it.  Of course, it seems so obvious that is why we cannot see dark matter, or dark energy, they travel beyond the speed of light.  Perhaps I am letting my imagination get the better of me but hey, anything is possible.

Whilst looking for an image of the Torus I found a quotation, it is from the doc I saw the Torus mentioned in, the doc called Thrive and is definitely worth a watch.  The quotation does seem to make sense.

I would have never seen a connection if I had not been confused by the idea of dark matter as something that is all around us and the diagram of Einstein’s description of gravity.  Perhaps there is no connection, but what if there is, and beyond our visual limits of reality the galaxy and the Universe is a mirror and we are seeing only one half and the black hole is the energy conduit, that forces energy we call dark matter from one side of the mirror to the other.
